Robert has a very interesting background! Robert's Great Great Uncle was Captain Harry Coleburn with the Canadian Infantry Brigade. Back on August 24th 1914, Captain Colburn, a veterinarian with the Canadian Military, purchased an orphaned black bear cub for $20.00 in White River in Northern Ontario while taking the train from Winnipeg to Valcartier, Quebec before heading overseas for World War I. The lieutenant and the little bear formed an instant though unlikely, friendship adjusting together to an army life in the Canadian Infantry headquarters in Great Britain. The cub soon became a general favorite and when it came to ship out to the frontlines in France. Coleburn knowing that the bear would not be permitted to accompany him to France, arranged to have the bear left at the London zoo. While being kept at the London Zoo the bear cub soon became the favorite of a regular visitor Christopher Robin Milne, son of A.A Milne. Coleburn was given the honor of naming the bear, which he called Winnipeg after his hometown. Christopher Milne, unable to pronounce the full name, shortened it to "Winnie".
